The aim of this project is to analyse the structural behaviour for Jib of a crane. The work is divided into three parts which will focus on model behaviour in 1st part which is followed by the dynamic response of the structure for an external load for 2nd part. Moreover, the final study will be for a reduced model of the structure.
To begin with, the jib of the crane is modelled to understand the modal behaviour through the finite element beam model in Matlab. Further study is carried out by computing the Eigen frequencies and drawing different mode shapes. Furthermore, the damping ratio is computed for the damping of the structure.Further, the study is carried out to simulate the dynamic response of the structure to a load attached to the crane which is rapidly oscillating. This is simulated in Matlab and studied through the method of direct time integration.
Finally, the study is carried out for a reduced model to reduce the computational time. The structure is condensed by retaining four indicated nodes. Further, with use of Craig Brampton and Guyan Iron method, Eigen frequency of the condensed structure is compared with an initial structure such that the error on the first five Eigen frequencies is less than 2%
