Application of the Lagrangianmechanics to the hydrodynamic analysis of a Cold Water Pipe for Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion
About
The hydrodynamic analysis tools available for the study of an Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion cold water pipe are expensive and closed source. As a start-up working on this technology hosted at the academic lab Energy-Lab, DEEPRUN led to research about a specialized theory and its related tool. In this work, the cold water pipe has been modelled as a series of pendulums, fixed to a floating platform at its upper end and left free at its lower end.
The equations of motion are determined in Lagrangian mechanics, where the formulation of complex coupled systems is eased compared to the Newtonian mechanics overwhelmingly used in the hydrodynamics field.
